LAILA — Synopsis

Written & Produced by Eric EZRIC Roberson

“Laila” is the emotional core of the SIN’SIN EP — a deeply personal record that tells the story of fatherhood, growth, distance, and redemption.

Written and produced by Eric EZRIC Roberson and brought to life through the vocals of Dontay Phillips, the song captures the journey of a father navigating life’s challenges while holding onto the one thing that never changed — his love for his daughter.

From the moment she was born, through the years of separation and missed milestones, to the present where their bond is stronger than ever, “Laila” is a raw and honest reflection of real-life experiences. It speaks to the pain of not always being there, the weight of growth, and the commitment to never let go again.

More than just a song, “Laila” is a promise — a declaration that no matter what life brings, it’s always “me and you against the world.”

LAILA — Lyrics

Yeah…
EZ-Ric…
This one for my baby…
Laila…

I remember the day you came in this world
Doctor said “it’s a girl”… changed my whole world
Tiny hands, yeah you wrapped around my finger
In that moment I knew I’d always be your protector

Me and your mama Cyn, yeah we tried to make it work
But we was too young, too much pain, too much hurt
I ain’t here to blame, I ain’t picking no sides
All I know is you the best thing in my life

Even when I wasn’t there every night
You was always on my mind…

Laila… daddy love you forever
Even when we wasn’t together
I was fighting storms, tryna make it better
Now it’s me and you against the world together

Laila… you my heart, you my soul
Watching you grow made me whole
I ain’t perfect but I’ll never let you go
It’s me and you against the world, just know

Birthdays I missed, yeah that pain hit deep
Late night calls just to hear you speak
Pictures in my phone, watching you grow up
Wishing I could be there every time you woke up

School plays, first steps, I was late to see
But you still looked at me like a hero to be
And that broke me down, yeah it humbled my pride
Made me swear I’d never leave your side again in life

Even when the distance got real wide
I was right there in spirit by your side…

Laila… daddy love you forever
Even when we wasn’t together
I was fighting storms, tryna make it better
Now it’s me and you against the world together

Laila… you my heart, you my soul
Watching you grow made me whole
I ain’t perfect but I’ll never let you go
It’s me and you against the world, just know

Now you sixteen, got your own mindset
Smart, beautiful, ain’t even peaked yet
We laugh, we talk like best friends now
Crazy how life turned around somehow

I see your strength, you got that from me
And your mama too, yeah that’s real to see
No matter what happened, we made something great
And I thank God every day for your face

If the world turn cold, I’ma keep you warm
If they ever doubt you, I’ma prove ‘em wrong
You my legacy, yeah you my light
I’m riding with you for the rest of my life

And I know I wasn’t always there
But I promise now, I ain’t going nowhere
Through the pain, through the tears we came
Now it’s us forever, we done changed the game

Laila… daddy love you forever
Now we finally here together
Through the rain, we survived the weather
Now it’s me and you against the world forever

Laila… you my heart, you my soul
You the reason I’ll never fold
Through it all, yeah you made me grow
It’s me and you against the world, just know

Yeah…
EZ-Ric…
That’s my baby…
Laila…
Forever…
